About Us
Brief History
Merchant City Music was incorporated in November 1992 and started trading soon after. There was two sides to the company when it was formed. There was a recording studio, Apollo Recording, situated in the basement and a ground level shop, selling strings and second hand guitars.

Shop front in Glasgow
The first Merchant City Music website went live under the guitarstrings.co.uk domain and was one of the first to offer guitar strings to buy online in the UK.
In 2001, the shop, Merchant City Music and website, guitarstrings.co.uk, separated from Apollo Recording which moved to the South Side of Glasgow. The increased space allowed for expansion in the mail order division. The mail order department grew again in 2004 when it introduced a warehouse for holding and sending out stock.
Merchant City Music has always gone that little bit extra for our customers. Not only do we offer the cheapest prices consitently across the board, we also back this up with exeptionally friendly and helpful service that has to be experienced to be believed!
Our extra attention to detail means that every single guitar that we sell has been lovingly set up to the highest possible standards. If it's not right we'll fix it.
In 2006, we have a new website and offer more choice of stock than ever. Through all the changes that have occurred to Merchant City Music over the years, one thing still remains the same: our staff are friendly, approachable and always willing to help.
Mail Order
We do try our best to keep things in stock but that is not alway possible. If something has a "buy now" button beside it, this means we have it in stock and it is available for immediate dispatch. We will contact you as soon as possible if we have run out of something though.
If there is something that you can not find on our website then why not give us a quick call on 0141 552 6290 and we will do our best to help you out.
Staff
Richard Cameron - Purchasing and Accounts Manager
Has the 'Power of Sound' embedded into his fingers. Forgotten that he's actually quite good at the guitar, it's been that long since anyone heard him. Has been at the Merchy since he was, but a lad.
Drew Sinclair - Advertising and Marketing Manager
Oddly talented with a glass slide. Usually to be found with a phone in both ears and a nice picture on his computer screen. Actually been to Baghdad, but only for one night!
Johnny Brady - Warehouse Manager
This man is the reason your guitar is packed all lovely and safely, he is a whiz with cardboard, but he has been known to walk in a room, play bass, and make people happy. Johnny's other job .
Ruaraidh Macleod - Guitar Technician
Ruaraidh is a fully trained guitar technician, who checks and packs the guitars before they are sent out. His real job though is to test the customers to see if they can pronounce his name correctly.
Dougie Young - Warehouse
Dougie actually built the 'Merchy' 14 years ago when we first opened and he is now back to make sure we are still doing it right!
