D'Angelico

D'Angelico have a fantastic jazz guitar heritage. Originating in New York, USA and specialising in archtop acoustics they were hand made. John D'Angelico was able to produce up to about thirty five instruments a year in the late 1930s. In the 1940s his instruments were know as the finest in the business. He even attracted offers from some of the most famous names in the business. Fred Gretsch was desperate to have him work for his brand. He wasn't interested though. He wanted to do things his way for his customers.

D'Angelico guitars, James D'Aquisto and the modern day.

A talented young musician who studied jazz, James D'Aquisto, was offered a job with the company in 1952. As it turned out D'Aquisto would save the company and preserve the heritage. D'Angelico was found dead of a heart attack at age 59. The Bench was then inherited by the young protégé. He eventually would purchase the brand name from the family. Fast forward to 2011 and the brand had been recently purchased. A new team has been assembled to deliver classic semi acoustic guitars at an affordable price. Offering exceptional quality for the money. If you are after a traditional archtop jazz box, make D'Angelico guitars your first port of call.
