The Auden York is a hybrid electro-acoustic nylon string guitar with solid Cedar top and solid African Mahogany back and sides. Designed to be intuitively comfortable to play for the steel-string acoustic guitarist, the York has a narrower 45mm nut width and subtly radiused fretboard. Its 00 body is dimensionally the same as Auden’s Julia 00 model, while the 12th fret neck join aids resonance, emphasising that characteristic nylon string tonal nuance. The master luthier’s touch is really evident in how this guitar plays; it is completely approachable for its target player and highly responsive to the smallest input. Auden guitars are a small outfit based in England, building some beautiful acoustic guitars which really outpunch their price bracket. Though a small amount of pre-production happens outside the UK, assembly, tuning, setup and quality control happens in the company’s Northamptonshire workshop. Utilising high grade solid tonewoods, these guitars are special to play from the moment they’re picked up.

This Auden York model is a hybrid nylon string guitar, based on the Auden Julia 00 model. Though its body size is the same as the Julia, its bracing has been comprehensively adapted to accomodate the subtleties and lighter strain of the nylon strings. This, combined with a 12th fret neck join, results in a guitar with wonderful tonal nuance, responsive to the lightest touch. Considering the traditional 12th fret join, you might expect a traditionally wide classical neck, but here the acoustic guitarist is in for a pleasant surprise. A petite (for a nylon string guitar) 45mm nut fits easily in the hand, while a gentle 16” radius allows the fretboard to fall naturally under the fingers. The result is an immediately familiar playing experience to complement the body’s mellow tone - the best of both worlds!
