All the Latest Insight into the new Squier Paranormal Series
Over the past couple of years we’ve seen Fender engage in some serious blue-sky thinking through its Parallel Universe and Alternate Reality series. This creativity has now made its way into the Squier line: welcome to the new-for-2020 Squier Paranormal Series!
We’re very pleased to report that Squier has charted its own stratospheric path with the Paranormal Series, resulting in some truly mouth-watering models for any guitar fan. Highlights include a ’50s-inspired Jazz Bass and Cabronita Telecaster models in both Thinline and Baritone flavours. Read on for all the details, and for when you can expect the models to be in stock here at Merchant City Music!
When Does the Squier Paranormal Series Land in the UK?
Squier Paranormal Series models will be arriving in two batches through 2020. Each batch will include a range of unique takes on classic models, as well as revivals of lesser seen guitars, and completely new combinations of well-loved bodies and specs.
The first batch – consisting of the Baritone Cabronita Telecaster, Offset Telecaster (Surf Green and Natural), Toronado (Lake Placid Blue and Black) and Super-Sonic (Ice Blue Metallic and Graphite Metallic) – will drop in July 2020.
The Second batch – including the ’54 Jazz Bass (Butterscotch Blonde and White Blonde), Cabronita Telecaster (Fiesta Red and Olympic White) and Cyclone (Shell Pink and Daphne Blue) – is due in September2020.
Squier Paranormal Series Models Arriving in July 2020
The Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster combines stunningly simple looks with a 27″ scale length. Fitted with 14 gauge strings, it still feels just right and is perfect for laying down licks in a register no-one will expect! Fat tone comes courtesy of twin Fender-Designed alnico single-coil soapbar pickups, while a 6-saddle hardtail bridge keeps the intonation in check.
The Squier Paranormal Offset Telecaster is available in both Surf Green and Natural colourways. Whichever you prefer, we’re incredibly pleased to see a Squier version of this Fender favourite. Combining the body of a Jazzmaster with the neck, pickups and controls of a Tele, the Offset Tele is, for many players, the perfect guitar.
Reviving a ’90s era Fender body shape, the Squier Paranormal Toronado charts its own path, while retaining a Fender family familiarly. With a slightly shorter scale length of 24.75″, plus twin humbuckers and a hard-tail bridge, the Toronado produces crushing tone. Versatility is nevertheless maintained, thanks to individual volume and tone controls for each pickup, as well as a 3-way position switch. Available in either Lake Placid Blue or Black.
If you’re after something completely different, you can’t go wrong with the Squier Paranormal Super-Sonic! Available in two metallic colourways at launch – Graphite Metallic and Ice Blue Metallic – the Super Sonic is double reversed: not only does it feature a reverse headstock, but the body is reversed too! Many players prefer a reverse headstock for downtuning, as well as for improved access to the tuners.
A synchronised tremolo system makes the Paranormal SuperSonic suitable for a wide variety of string bending tricks and techniques. Twin Atomic Humbucking pickups combine with a short 24″ scale to provide thunderous tone.
Squier Paranormal Series Models Arriving in September 2020
One Squier Paranormal Series model which has created quite a stir is this new Paranormal Cabronita Telecaster Thinline – available in Fiesta Red or Olympic White. We can all agree that it looks absolutely stunning, thanks to the simple lines, single-ply pickguard and twin Jazzmaster pickups.
The semi-hollow body (denoted by the “Thinline” in the name, and given away by the single “F” soundhole) thickens up the tone, while those pickups supply ample growling tone when cranked.
Riffing off the well-loved Mustang body shape, the Squier Paranormal Cyclone is compact and wieldy to hold. A 24.75″ scale neck is fitted to the diminutive body, while two pastel colourways – Daphne Blue and Shell Pink – combine perfectly with Pearloid pickguards.
Fitted with a Synchronised Trem system from a Strat, triple Fender-Designed Alnico Single-Coil pickups, plus Jaguar controls (with three individual switches to operate the pickups) the Cyclone is ready to stir up a storm, whatever style you throw at it!
Finally, don’t think Squier forgot the bassists out there! This Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass ’54 is shaping up to be one of the hot products of 2020. It might be mind-bending to see early ’50s Precision Bass aethetics on a model which first came out in 1960, but you soon get used to it. It just looks so cool!
With a full 34″ scale length and narrow 1.5″ nut width, Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass is designed for fast, articulate playing. Twin Fender-Designed Alnico Single-Coil pickups are controlled via two concentric controls. This ensures simple looks and maximum versatility. Available in Butterscotsch Blonde or White Blonde.
