Guild Guitars

Guild Guitars were founded in 1952 in the United States by Alfred Dronge and George Mann. Originally based in New York, Guild focused on making arch-top semi acoustic jazz electric guitars. As the company expanded, it move to new premises in New Jersey. In the 1960s they started to build folk and steel strung acoustic instruments including the D-55, D-50, D-40. These successfully competed with Martin Guitar's D-18 and D-28 acoustics.

Most recently, Guild Guitars has painstakingly gathered together tools and plans from its heyday, building a new factory in Oxnard, California. Guild USA guitars, produced at this new facility, are some of the finest quality acoustic guitars we stock here at Merchant City Music. Complementing this US-made range is the Westerly Collection, paying homage to the company's early history. The Westerly collection is produced in China to a very high standard, and is available at a very attractive price point. Finally, the Guild electric guitar range - the Newark St. Collection - includes a range of solid- and hollow-body instruments, each with unique style and voice harking back to the 1950s and '60s.

We're proud to always keep a good range of Guild Guitars in stock here at Merchant City Music, which all undergo our rigorous check-over and set-up regime.
