Breedlove Masterclass Dreadnought Brazilian Rosewood Tea Burst E

Brazilian Rosewood is universally recognised as the pinnacle of all guitar back and sides woods. It is also highly regulated, and no longer possible to acquire unless it was legally harvested before it was certified an endangered species in 1992. The log used for this guitar's back and sides was legally harvested before the 1960s and shipped to Spain. Here, it was seasoned for twenty years, before being cut into backs and sides for guitars and seasoned for another twenty years.

In 2013 it was acquired by Tom Bedell of Breedlove guitars. Along with other Brazilian Rosewood from the same stock, this represented the largest legal stockpile of the wood in the world. It now sits under lock and key in Breedlove's Oregon wood store, being used for only the finest of guitars made in the company's workshop. Brazilian Rosewood is currently a $3400 custom upgrade - for the wood alone.

This Masterclass Dreadnought is finished with all the usual Masterclass fineries, and more. Figured Koa binding adorns the body, fretboard and the inside of the soundhole. Masterclass leaf inlays feature on the fretboard, while the signature Breedlove winged bridge is carved from African ebony, as are the fretboard and headstock cap. An LR Baggs Anthem system has been installed; combining an undersaddle element pickup with a microphone, this system faithfully reproduces the natural tone of the instrument.

The guitar's acoustic tone is rich, cultured and balanced. The slow-growth Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top has some of the tightest grain we've ever seen, allowing it to respond powerfully to any input. The Brazilian rosewood lives up to its reputation, working beautifully in conjunction with the spruce. These woods in play, the Breedlove modified dreadnought body becomes a veritable melting pot of stunning acoustic guitar tone, eliciting none of the boominess for which this body shape is traditionally renowned.
