The Fender Made In Japan (MIJ) Traditional ‘70s Telecaster Thinline is here presented in a Natural finish. Very few of this model have been brought into Europe, and the build quality is stunning; yet more evidence of why we’re such big fans of Fender’s Japanese-made guitars here at Merchant City Music. Being a Traditional ‘70s model, this Tele looks and feels like an instrument from the period, only the 9.5” radius fretboard bringing the playability up-to-date.

Fender MIJ Traditional ‘70s Telecaster Thinline Natural
Fender’s MIJ range of guitars has only recently been more readily available in the UK, finally filling a demand which has been there for some time. Though coming in at a significant cost reduction over American-made instruments, these Made In Japan guitars represent the best of Japanese build quality. They are, in other words, world class.
If you’re looking at a Traditional ‘70s model, such as this Thinline Telecaster, you’re likely to be after a guitar which is highly authentic to the ‘70s period of Tele’s. This Thinline model features a body cavity, giving it a much more open, fat tone. These sonic attributes are only enhanced by the inclusion of twin Fender Wide Range Humbucking pickups, controlled via a 3-position blade.
In terms of feel, the “U”-shaped neck is fatter than your run-of-the-mill “C”-shaped neck, ideal for those with larger hands, or for someone who just likes some chunk to their neck. It’s certainly in-keeping with the workhorse nature of a Tele. The updated 9.5”-radius fretboard is perfect a wide range of styles from traditional to modern, making this guitar suitable for a variety of players.
This Fender MIJ Traditional ‘70s Telecaster Thinline is a truly delightful homage to this golden age in Fender’s history.
