5-way switching controls three DiMarzio pickups: an Air Norton in the Neck, True Velvet in the middle and Tone Zone in the bridge. The Tone Zone is hot, but offers much more dynamic range than most “hot” pickups. The Air Norton is warm, but not muddy, with plenty of harmonics and a controllability that makes it a joy to play. The middle position True Velvet is voiced to produce vintage single-coil brightness, but with none of the thinness which plagues many similar pickups when playing the high strings above the 12th fret. Finally, the Edge tremolo is a true masterpiece of engineering, once again demonstrating why Ibanez Prestige instruments are played by the world’s best guitarists.
