This Larrivee 0-40R Rosewood Sunburst Special model has been produced in limited numbers, coming with aesthetic and tonewood upgrades. The soundboard utilises Moon Spruce which, when combined with the Rosewood back and sides, results in incredible volume and bass response for such a small body. Visually, upgrades include a sunburst top, flamed maple body binding and a Pyramid bridge.

Larrivee 0-40R Rosewood Legacy Series Sunburst Special

Jean Larrivée has been busy collecting Austrian Red spruce "Moonwood", originally found in the Black Forest, for a number of years. Using the exacting methods of harvest adopted by Stradivarius, Moonwood, or Moon Spruce is a century-old tradition of falling a specific tree within a list of very specific parameters. This includes falling time in relevance to moon phase, altitude of tree, peak age/size of tree, and finally "forest stabilization". The result is a much stiffer fiber that delivers incredibly spectacular tone.

On the Larrivee O-40R Sunburst Special, this outstanding top wood has been combined with the overtone-rich resonance of Rosewood for the back and sides. Larrivee’s "Scalloped Parabolic Hybrid" bracing design brings the best of this outstanding combination. A non-symmetrical scalloped lateral cross-bracing pattern has been blended with Larrivee’s tried and true balanced X-Brace system. The result is maximum strength using the least amount of material. It's a build that allows even further vibration of the soundboard, while still offering a controlled dynamic bass response.
