The Larrivee D-40W is a limited edition acoustic guitar featuring Black Walnut back and sides with Sitka Spruce top. The combination of the big dreadnought body with Black Walnut back and sides results in plenty of projection and a unique voice. The spruce top provides familiar tonal continuity, allowing the walnut to really shine through with a deeper, darker tonal palette and singing, clear trebles. Ultimately, this guitar is about rhythm and flatpicking, and it is a real joy to play in either capacity.

Larrivée D-40W Black Walnut Limited Edition Dreadnought

The Larrivee D-40W Ltd uses Larrivee’s Legacy series D-40 as its basis. Though visually traditional, it features Larrivee’s revolutionary Scalloped Parabolic Hybrid bracing system. Blending a non-symmetrical scalloped lateral cross-bracing pattern with Larrivee’s standard X-Brace, this guitar combines maximum strength with minimal material. It's a build that allows even further vibration of the soundboard, while still offering a controlled bass response.

Larrivee prides itself on being plugged in to the entire process of producing a finished, hand-made guitar, from log selection on the forest floor to final quality control in their Oxnard, California workshop. Their aim to build not the most guitars, but the best, is evident on the D-40W Ltd. Hand selection of the woods has ensured that the top, back and sides perform optimally together.

In terms of aesthetics, the D-40W features an ebony headplate, fretboard and bridge, with a bone nut, saddle and bridge pins. Combined, these components maximise the guitar’s resonance transfer from strings to body, as does the company’s signature handfit dovetail neck joint. Herringbone purfling adorns the top, matching the Rosette. The whole body - including the fretboard - is bound in maple. The pickguard is finished in Larrivee’s signature tortoiseshell, while the fretboard features traditional diamond inlays. The simple geometrical headstock is fitted with beautiful open-back 18:1 tuners.
