Music Man Dark Ray Obsidian Black with Custom Darkglass Preamp

The Music Man DarkRay Obsidian Black is fitted with a new modern 2 Band preamp, specifically designed by Darkglass for this bass. The preamp is extremely clean and quiet with adjustable volume, gain, bass, treble, and blend controls to achieve the desired tone. Three preamp modes offer very distinct and useful sounds: Clean, Alpha (distortion), and Omega (fuzz). Both distortion circuits are fully mixable via an onboard gain knob and blend control manipulated to the user’s preference. Astonishing clean, slight gain, or a brutal fuzz tone is obtainable, all with no low-end loss. A bright LED ring and the 3-way lever switch indicates which mode the bass is in.

The Dark Ray’s foundation is its comfort contoured select hardwood body, onto which is bolted Music Man’s stunning roasted maple neck. These necks feel like butter, thanks to their Gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend finish. The roasting process results in a darker caramel hue, while simultaneously removing impurities from the maple and increasing stability. The neck is topped with a jet black ebony fretboard, matching the black body finish, pickguard and matte black hardware. 22 wide / high profile stainless steel frets have been painstakingly finished, resulting in a bass which will withstand years of hard use.

Worthy of mention is the sculpted neck join which complements the contoured body to produce outstanding comfort at all contact points. The neck plate is of a 5-bolt design, allowing for perfect alignment and no shifting. It comes etched with a Darkglass logo to set this special bass apart.
