This unique guitar started out as a Limited Edition Ice White Charger 290 with Bigsby and stunning Roasted Maple neck. Inspired by Reverend’s 390 pickup layout, the original owner asked us to customise the guitar for him, which we were more than happy to do! We duly fitted an extra Reverend 9A5 pickup in the middle position, complete with a push / pull tone pot (allowing the neck and bridge pickups to be used together) and 5-way selector.

This guitar caused quite a stir on social media when we originally customised it; now its fans will get a shot at actually owning it! It looks completely stock and only the most eagle-eyed Reverend aficionado would notice that it isn’t a factory model. In terms of condition, it is mint. We’d term it collector grade.

Here at Merchant City Music, we live and breathe Reverend, holding what is probably the largest range of these stunning guitars on the planet. You can buy online with confidence, knowing that your new guitar will be perfectly set up and shipped fast and secure to your door. Alternatively, visit us in Glasgow, where we’ll be happy to set you up for a personalised demo and help you get acquainted with the different models and options available.

Reverend Charger 390 LE Bigsby Ice White

The Charger 290 on which this guitar is based is one of the most popular models in the Reverend lineup, and the classy Ice White finish really adds appeal. When Reverend fit a Bigsby trem they do it right. A roller tune-o-matic bridge and Boneite nut means the strings glide with no resistance when the trem is in use. Reverend's own 'Soft-Touch' spring replaces the stiffer Bigsby spring which makes the trem much more pleasant to use. So gone are the days of tuning issues, you can now use the tremolo and stay in tune. Locking tuners complete the setup which make changing strings a quick and painless process.

The Charger 290 LE Bigsby is loaded with a pair of Alnico 5 P90 pickups; our 390 mod adds a third in the middle position. These pickups are wound slightly hotter than traditional P90s and tend not to be as noisy. The bridge pickup offers a thick snarl whereas the neck has a beautiful clear, open tone. The third pickup broadens the sonic horizons even further thanks to push / pull and a 5-way switch. With the fitted Bass Contour control you can dial out the bass which is great for tightening up the low end, or re-voicing the pickups.

Roasted Maple neck and Pau Ferro fingerboard

The Roasted Maple Reverend use for their necks is nothing short of world class. These are some of the best necks around. Roasted Maple is heat treated at over 300° F to remove sugars, moisture, and impurities. This maple is lighter, more stable, and has a beautiful caramel colour. The result is an exceptional maple neck that will require less seasonal adjustment, and boasts a rich vintage look. The Pau Ferro fingerboard is fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets which are all perfectly levelled and polished to a high shine. The 12" radius and quality frets make string bends a joy.

The Charger 390 LE features top notch components

Reverend guitars don't just look great on the outside, they also use quality components inside. All Reverends use an upgraded jack by Pure Tone Technologies. The Pure Tone jack has dual contacts for improved grip, audio signal and reliability. It's the most dependable guitar jack available and operates with a satisfying 'clunk' when plugging in. All Reverend guitars have a treble bleed circuit, preserving the treble when you roll back the volume control. When you roll back a standard volume control, the tone loses treble and becomes dull sounding. Now you can turn down and still sound great! Reverend use Alpha control pots with a +-10% rating. While a typical pot is +-20%, their pots are built to tighter specifications, making them more consistent. Typically used in expensive boutique guitars, but standard issue in all Reverends. Reverend use capacitors with a +-10% rating, while a typical cap is +-20%. Reverend caps are made to tighter specifications, so they’re more consistent. Made of polyester, they’re also longer lasting, and less affected by temperature than cheaper ceramic caps . Typically used in expensive boutique guitars. Reverend have invented a new "Triple-Tree" string tree. This patent-pending string tree has an extended bar to hold down three strings at a time with just one tree, eliminating G string buzz in the nut slot.
