We’re very happy to have got our hands on one of these very special Limited Edition Reverend Jenn Wasner Signature JW-1 guitars, here fitted with two 9A5 P90 pickups (a layout known as 290 in Reverend-speak). Our guitar is number 8 of 8 built in total, with only 5 having actually been made available to the public. Its new owner will rank among a select few custodians, including Wasner herself (who we know, of course, from Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes and Bon Iver), Leeds musician (and Wasner collaborator) Katie Harkin, and Ken Haas of Reverend guitars.

As with the original humbucker-equipped guitar, the LE Reverend Jenn Wasner Signature 290 guitar features an incredible painted top design called “Optic Interruption”. Based on the Charger 290 model the JW1 290 stands out on any stage! Why not pop in to our Glasgow guitar shop for a demo and view an enormous range of Reverend guitars. You can buy online with fast delivery across the UK and Worldwide. Every guitar is lovingly set up to perfection and packaged safely.

Reverend JW1 Jenn Wasner Signature 290 Limited Edition Optic Interruption

Jenn Wasner is a talented multi-instrumentalist from Baltimore, Maryland. She is a founding member of the band Wye Oak and performs solo under the name Flock Of Dimes. More recently she has also joined Bon Iver as a recording and touring band member.

The Limited Edition Reverend JW1 9A5 is based on the Charger 290 model with a very special paint job! The solid Korina body features a top design created by April Camlin, a textile artist in Baltimore who created Jenn’s stage wear. When Jenn plays this guitar on stage you can see why they called the finish Optic Interruption! The black and white design is across the top only and no pickguard is fitted. The top edge of the body features cream binding with the back and sides finished in Violin Brown.

A 25.5" scale Dark Roasted Maple neck is fitted with a Pau Ferro fretboard and 22 medium jumbo frets. The fretwork on Reverend's guitars is flawless which allows you to get the action as low as you like without any problems.

Two 9A5 Soapbar pickups with Bass Contour Control

The Reverend JW1 Jenn Wasner Signature Optic Interruption features two of Reverend's 9A5 P90 pickups. The bridge version produces raw, classic tone, but is wound slightly hotter for thicker sound than a vintage P90. This makes it perfect for the bridge position. The neck pickup is slightly cleaner than a vintage P90, with clear, open tone.

Both P90’s are wired to a simple 3-way blade switch with volume and tone control. On the upper bout you'll find a third control pot, the famous Reverend bass contour control. The bass contour allows you to roll off the lower bass frequencies, which really thins out the tone and adds some spank, giving the P90’s a more classic twang. Variable pickup voicing at your fingertips!

Top-Shelf Hardware

Reverend has developed a reputation for building outstandingly hardy gigging instruments. Their retail artist models are, in fact, exactly the same guitars as used by the artists themselves. Reverend prides themselves in the fact that a Reverend Artist can lose their instrument, walk into a Reverend dealer, buy the same guitar off the shelf, and complete the tour. A big part of this capability is the quality of components fitted to every Reverend.

Reverend's Boneite nut reduces friction whilst still transferring the tone of the strings through the guitar. It's more durable than graphite whilst having a more traditional tone and appearance. Along with high quality locking machine heads and a fixed Tune-O-Matic with Stop Tail bridge, you do not need to worry about the Jenn Wasner Signature guitar going out of tune. String changes are rapid and it make this a real workhorse of a professional instrument.

Other Reverend innovations include the Triple-Tree string tree, which has an extended bar to hold down three strings at a time with just one tree, eliminating G string buzz in the nut slot. A six-bolt neck plate increases the mounting pressure of the neck by fifty percent. This makes a stronger neck connection, which improves sustain, tuning stability, and neck alignment. Similarly, Reverend’s proprietary jack plate features four mounting screws, instead of two. The extra screws prevent the plate from tearing out of the body. Made of steel for durability, the laser etched logo adds an extra touch of class! This is combined with a Pure Tone jack socket for ultimate dependability. A standard jack has single contacts, but the Pure Tone jack has dual contacts for improved grip, audio signal and reliability. This is the most reliable guitar jack available.

Finally, all Reverend guitars have a treble bleed circuit, preserving the treble when you roll back the volume control. When you roll back a standard volume control, the tone loses treble and becomes dull sounding. Now you can turn down and still sound great! Reverend also use Alpha control pots with a +-10% rating. While a typical pot is +-20%, Reverend’s pots are built to tighter specifications, making them more consistent. Reverend’s caps caps are also rated +-10%, while a typical cap is +-20%. Made of polyester, they’re also longer lasting, and less affected by temperature than cheaper ceramic caps. These upgrades are typically used in expensive boutique guitars, but are standard issue in all Reverends, including artist models such as this Jenn Wasner Signature 290 LE Optic Interruption.
