Reverend Manta Ray 390 in Mulberry Mist

Warm and lively, with the acoustic richness and overtones of a full size semi-hollow. Round enough for jazz, but this ray can sting too, with plenty of sustain and attack for rock and blues. The 1-3/4" thick body is slim and manageable and the flat top has a clean, fresh look. Solid wood construction is featured throughout, with no plywood. The back, sides and center block are produced from one slab of Korina which is routed from the top, and capped with a solid maple flat top. Excellent sustain and attack are coupled with substantial resonance, for a complex and responsive tone.

Reverend use three of their own Alnico 5 magnet P90 pickups in the Manta Ray 390. The bridge pickup is slightly hotter than a vintage P90 offing raw, classic tone with less hum than most other P90's. The middle and neck pickups are cleaner than vintage P90's. They give you a clear, open tone and less hum. The middle pickup is Reverse Wind Reverse Polarity for hum-cancelling when used with bridge or neck pickups. Positions 2 and 4 on the pickup selector deliver classic "quack" but with a thicker tonality.

Other upgrades for 2018/19 include a Boneite nut, which offers more consistency than natural bone, also reducing friction for more consistent string bends and better tuning stability. The pots and caps have been upgraded to a +-10% rating for more consistency and longevity, while the jack socket is now a Pure Tone part, with dual contacts for improved grip and audio signal reliability. Finally, the jack plate has been upgraded to Reverend’s new four-screw plate for a more secure body mount. It is also laser-etched with the Reverend logo - a subtle visual cue to the substantial upgrades going on below!
